Joy
Rooted in who God is, not in what is happening.

The teaching
Biblical joy is not the denial of pain. It is gladness anchored in an unchanging God while circumstances change. That is why Paul could write about rejoicing from a prison cell.
Happiness is tied to happenings; chara is tied to the character and nearness of God. It grows as you rehearse who He is rather than only what you feel.
Joy is also strength. It is what keeps a believer serving, praying and hoping long after excitement has faded.
